New Berlin hosts Toastmasters meeting. Club adds new member from Auburn.
The Tri-County Toastmasters club met on Thursday at Blankenship Financial Planning in New Berlin. Club members present at Thursday’s meeting were: Les Apps, Dr. Todd Austin, Jim Blankenship, Andy Frost, Rev. Ron Grimes, Jackie Rakers, Alan Saeger, Cheryl Savage, Matt Summers and Billy Watkins. President Grimes also welcomed Dawn Boyer from Auburn as the club's newest member. Public Relations officer Todd Austin announced that Virden will once again host the annual Area 1 Humorous Speech Contest on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 1:00 P.M.

New Berlin's Jim Blankenship served as the Toastmaster of Thursday’s meeting. Todd Austin conducted the impromptu speaking (or table topics) portion of the program. His questions were all on topics related to religion and spirituality in the U.S., which made for some interesting responses.

The evening’s first prepared speaker was Andy Frost, who was giving his first speech as a club member. The second speaker was Ron Grimes, whose informative talk called "T.I.’s Big Picture" more or less served as an orientation for new members and a review for long-time members about the many benefits that Toastmasters International offers club members. The third speaker was Jackie Rakers, whose talk on volunteerism was titled "Being Good To People".

The Toastmaster club will next meet on Thursday September 15, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center at 105 West Jackson Streetin Virden. The scheduled speakers for next meeting are Les Apps, Cheryl Savage and Auburn's Dawn Boyer. "Guests and new members are always welcome to attend our club meetings" states club vice-president Todd Austin. For more information about how the Toastmasters program works, please call 965-3100.
