May 3, 2007 Meeting

Club president Les Apps (left) served as the Toastmaster at Thursday’s Tri-County Toastmasters meeting. Jackie Rakers (right), the evening’s prepared speaker, delivered an inspirational presentation, which was a project from the basic communication manual.




The Tri-County Toastmasters club met on Thursday 5-3-07 at the Virden Area Community Center. Club members present at Thursday’s meeting were: Les Apps, Dr. Todd Austin, Jackie Rakers, Alan Saeger and Bill Watkins.

Club president Les Apps served as the evening’s Toastmaster (i.e., master of ceremonies). Billy Watkins conducted the Tabletopics (impromptu speaking) portion of the program, during with each participant had to vividly describe a different object or image (provided by Watkins) without showing the audience the object or image or telling it’s name. Each participant then had two minutes to deliver his response.
The evening’s prepared speaker was Jackie Rakers. Rakers delivered an inspirational speech entitled “Misadventures and Other Mistakes I’ve Made”.
The Toastmasters club will next meet on Thursday May 17, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center at 105 West Jackson Street in Virden. The scheduled speaker for the next meeting is John Davidson. “All area residents are encouraged to attend our meetings. Whether your goal is to lead a business meeting, excel at your next job interview or to talk to a whole room full of people, Toastmasters is an extremely cost-effective opportunity to fine-tune one’s communication and leadership skills” states club vice-president Todd Austin.
