Toastmasters hold first meeting of 2007

John Davidson and Marcia Osterholt were the speakers at the most recent Tri-County Toastmasters Club meeting.

The Tri-County Toastmasters club met on Thursday 1-4-07 at the Virden Area Community Center. Club members present at Thursday’s meeting were: Les Apps, Dr. Todd Austin, Jim Blankenship from New Berlin, John Davidson, Liz Mollett from Auburn, Marcia Osterholt, Jackie Rakers, Alan Saeger, Michelle Suslee and Bill Watkins.

Les Apps served as the meeting’s Master of Ceremonies. Bill Watkins conducted the impromptu speaking portion of the program, during which he asked each participant a different question having to do with the new year and / or astronomy. Each participant then delivered a one to two minute unrehearsed response.

The first prepared speaker was Marcia Osterholt. Marcia’s persuasive and touching speech why we shouldn’t mix cell phones with driving. John Davidson was the second prepared speaker. Davidson delivered a “Eulogy to George Sellers”. It was in honor of a very good friend of his who recently passed away.

The Toastmasters club will next meet on Thursday January 18, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center at 105 West Jackson Street in Virden. The scheduled speaker for next meeting is Liz Mollett from Auburn. For more information about the Toastmasters program, please call (217) 965-3100.
