Tri-County Welcomes New Member


Liz Mollett, the Tri-County Toastmasters Club’s Vice President of Membership, welcomed Casey Tom as the club’s newest member at the last meeting.

John Davidson gave an inspirational speech to the Tri-County Club at Thursday’s meeting. He plans to compete in a Toastmasters Speech Contest in Springfield using the same presentation, which was called “The Bird Feeder”.


The Tri-County Toastmasters club met on Thursday 3-20-08 at the Virden Area Community Center. Veteran club members present at Thursday’s meeting were: Les Apps, Todd Austin, Jim Blankenship, John Davidson and Liz Mollett. Club Vice President of Membership Liz Mollett from Auburn later welcomed Casey Tom as the clubs newest member at Thursday’s meeting.

Les Apps from Girard served as the meeting’s master of ceremonies. Dr. Todd Austin from Virden was in charge of the Tabletopics, which is the impromptu speaking portion of the program. During Tabletopics, each participant’s task was to give a 1 to 2 minute impromptu response to the question he had just been asked, which each respondent receiving a different question.

The evening’s lone prepared speaker was John Davidson from Carlinville. Davidson gave a touching, dramatic presentation called “The Bird Feeder”. This was a special presentation that John plans to deliver again as a contestant in the upcoming Toastmasters Area 1 International Speech Contest in Springfield. Liz Mollett evaluated Davidson’s speech.

The Tri-County Toastmasters club, which serves the counties of Macoupin, Montgomery and Sangamon, will next meet on Thursday April 3, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the Virden Area Community Center located at 105 West Jackson Street. Toastmasters Witness Two Special Presentations

Long-time Tri-County member Alan Saeger (seated, left) who has since returned to work as a trucker for Witte Brothers of Troy, MO was given a humorous ‘Farewell Roast’ by longtime friend and fellow club member Todd Austin of Virden (right) at the last Toastmasters meeting.



John Davidson gave a riveting special presentation to the Tri-County Club at Thursday’s meeting. He plans to compete in a Toastmasters Speech Contest in Springfield on March 29th using this speech, which was called “The Bird Feeder”.


The Tri-County Toastmasters club met on Thursday 2-21-08 at the Virden Area Community Center. Club members present at Thursday’s meeting were: Les Apps, Todd Austin, Jim Blankenship, John Davidson, Alan Saeger and Billy Watkins.

Jim Blankenship, a financial planner from New Berlin, served as the meeting’s master of ceremonies. Billy Watkins from Morrisonville was in charge of the Tabletopics, which is the impromptu speaking portion of the program. During Tabletopics, each participant’s task was to give a 1 to 2 minute impromptu response to the question he had just been asked, which each respondent receiving a different question.

The evening’s first prepared speaker was Virden’s Dr. Todd Austin. Austin gave a presentation from the Advanced Toastmasters Manual on ‘Special Occasion Speeches’. Austin’s humorous address was a “Farewell Roast of Alan Saeger”. Saeger, a veteran Tri-County club member and longtime friend of Austin’s just returned to work as an over the road trucker four days after the last meeting. Thus this was Alan’s last meeting as a regular club member. Austin told a couple of real-life humorous stories about Alan, followed by some sincere praise. The speech was well received by Saeger and the rest of the audience. Jim Blankenship evaluated the roast.

Carlinville’s John Davidson was the second prepared speaker. Davidson gave a touching, dramatic presentation called “The Bird Feeder”. This was a special presentation that John plans to deliver again as a contestant in the Toastmasters Area 1 International Speech Contest in late March. Les Apps evaluated Davidson’s speech.

The Tri-County Toastmasters club, which serves the counties of Macoupin, Montgomery and Sangamon, will next meet on Thursday March 6, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at Austin Family Chiropractic located on the West Side of the Virden Square.
