Boyer speaks to Toastmasters -- 2007 Officers Installed
The Tri-County Toastmasters club met on Thursday 6-1-06 at the Virden Area Community Center. Club members present at Thursday’s meeting were: Les Apps, Dr. Todd Austin, Jim Blankenship from New Berlin, Dawn Boyer from Auburn, John Davidson, Rev. Ron Grimes, Liz Mollett from Auburn, Alan Saeger and Billy Watkins. Guests in attendance were Area 1 Governor Eileen Kluckman from Springfield and Jim Crafton from Auburn.
Area Governor Kluckman installed the new slate of club officers for the Toastmaster fiscal year which begins on July 1, 2006.
Les Apps served as the Master of Ceremonies of the meeting. Dawn Boyer conducted the impromptu speaking portion of the program, during which she asked each participant a different question. Each then delivered a one to two minute response. Billy Watkins conjured up with the word-of-the-week which was ‘bate’ meaning to slow, diminish or reduce.
The evening’s prepared speaker was also Dawn Boyer. Her informative talk was entitled "ACT Now", with the word ‘Act’ being an acronym for the steps one should take when dealing with either physical or emotional pain (Acknowledge, Communicate, Truth).
The Toastmasters club will next meet on Thursday June 15, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center at 105 West Jackson Street in Virden. The scheduled speakers for next meeting are Todd Austin, Ron Grimes and Liz Mollett. "Guests and new members are always welcome to attend our club meetings, which are devoted to helping area residents improve their communication and leadership skills" states club secretary Jim Blankenship.
