Toastmasters hear Sales Training Presentation.

Jim Blankenship gave a sales training presentation at the last Tri-County Toastmasters meeting.

The Tri-County Toastmasters club met on Thursday 6-7-07 at the Virden Area Community Center. Club members present at Thursday’s meeting were: Dr. Todd Austin, Jim Blankenship CFP, John Davidson, Liz Mollett from Auburn, Alan Saeger and Bill Watkins.

Alan Saeger served as the meeting’s Toastmaster (i.e., master of ceremonies). Todd Austin conducted a ‘current events’ Tabletopics (impromptu speaking) portion of the program.

The evening’s prepared speaker was Jim Blankenship. Blankenship, a financial planner from New Berlin, gave a special presentation from the Toastmasters advanced Persuasive Speaking manual. The project was entitled “Effective Sales Presentation”. Blankenship delivered a sales training presentation consisting of three parts: an introduction in which he explains the sales process; a role play; and lastly a group discussion of the first two parts. Bill Watkins helped Blankenship with the role play. The scenario was as follows: Blankenship was the owner of “Jim’s Knife Emporium’ and Watkins was a customer looking to purchase one or more knife’s for specific hunting-related purposes.

The Toastmasters club will next meet on Thursday June 21, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center at 105 West Jackson Street in Virden. The scheduled speaker for next meeting is John Davidson. “Our club is a community club, so all area residents are invited and encouraged to attend. Whether your goal is to lead a business meeting, just gain some speaking confidence or to talk to an entire room full of people, Toastmasters is an awesome, yet extremely cost-effective opportunity to fine-tune one’s communication and leadership skills” states club president Les Apps.
