Area Governor Attends 8/16/07 Meeting

Club Vice-president Todd Austin from Virden (right) welcomed a special visitor, Toastmasters Area 1 Governor Margaret Walker at Thursday’s Tri-County Toastmasters meeting.

The Tri-County Toastmasters club met on Thursday 8-16-07 at the Virden Area Community Center. Club members present at Thursday’s meeting were: Les Apps from Girard, Dr. Todd Austin, Jim Blankenship from New Berlin, John Davidson, Alan Saeger and Bill Watkins. A special dignitary, Toastmasters Area 1 Governor Margaret Walker from Decatur also attended Thursday’s meeting.

Jim Blankenship served as the meeting’s master of ceremonies. Billy Watkins conducted the Tabletopics or impromptu speaking portion of the program, with the main theme being ‘personal pet peeves’. Each participant had to give a 1 to 2 minute impromptu response to a ‘pet peeve’ question.

The evening’s prepared speaker was John Davidson. Davidson delivered a very informative after dinner presentation called ‘An American History Lesson’. It was from a project out of the advanced Toastmasters ‘Special Occasion Speeches’ manual. Todd Austin evaluated Davidson’s speech.

The Toastmasters club will next meet on Thursday September 6, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at a different location: AgBuyCo located at 303 Carlinville Plaza in Carlinville. “Although the Tri-County Toastmasters club usually meets in Virden, our name indicates that we serve the counties of Macoupin, Montgomery and Sangamon. Therefore, we are open to having meetings in other towns throughout our three county region” states Club Vice-president Todd Austin.
